Dr Kelvin Hopper

Dr Hopper is Executive Chairman of Innovation Dynamics Pty Ltd and founder of Aoris Nova Pty Ltd. He has broad experience spanning biomedical research, commercial R&D, marketing and operations in biotechnology. Dr Hopper is Director of several companies including a founding shareholder in BioFusion Capital, a specialised biotechnology fund with links throughout Asia. He earlier gained operational and strategic management experience from senior positions with the biotechnology company Monoclonal Australia Limited, and ICI Australia.
Earlier, Dr Hopper carried out original research in immunology, cancer, infectious diseases and parasitology in a number of institutions - the Max Planck Institute fur Biochemie (Munich), the Walter & Eliza Hall Institute (Melbourne) and the Kolling Institute of Medical Research at Royal North Shore Hospital (Sydney), with funding from NH&MRC, NIH and WHO. He is a member of professional societies and boards of tertiary institutions and is a member of the Management Committee of the Integrative Neurosciences Facility.
Dr Hopper is the licensee on the Australian Financial Services licence held by Innovation Dynamics and has authored many expert reports, opinions and valuations under that license. He started the influential BioBusiness Forums in Sydney in 1995 (currently in its 35th Forum) and co-authors the annual BioIndustry Review with Dr Lyndal Thorburn.
Dr Lyndal Thorburn
BSc (Hons), Grad Dip Legal Studies, PhD, FAICD
Dr Thorburn is Managing Director of Innovation Dynamics Pty Ltd and founder of Advance® Consulting & Evaluation. She has 15 years experience in financial management, strategic planning, technology transfer, innovation and research commercialisation in the private sector, CSIRO & government. Formal qualifications in science, legal studies and economic geography have been supplemented by ongoing training in intellectual property protection and management, marketing and media relations and project and research management.
Dr Thorburn has contributed to projects in a range of industries including transport and construction; health and biotechnology; financial and commercial services; information technology and telecommunications; space technology including remote sensing; retail construction; and environment. Her PhD thesis explored the impact of globalisation and regional development on the biotechnology industry’s innovation networks and addressed the role of the research system, the provision of venture finance and the impact of government policies on high-tech firms. Dr Thorburn continues to be a Research Associate at Macquarie University and in 2004 was appointed Adjunct Professor in commercialisation at the University of Canberra.
Dr Thorburn is a past Director of The Australian Biotechnology Association (now AusBiotech Ltd). In 2001 she was appointed to the International Advisory Board of the University of Ulster Research Park in Northern Ireland. Dr Thorburn was awarded the Telstra ACT Businesswoman of the Year Award for 2004.
